Contextual Research

Throughout both my major project and live project, I have been trying to broaden my knowledge of the context for my work which is Menswear. Having looked at both high street and high end towards the beginning of my major project and having worked for Tom Ford in my live project, I feel my work now sits best in the high end market due to the brighter colours, bolder patterns, quality of yarn and Lurex yarns used I have incorporated in to my work.

Thom Sweeney - Bespoke tailoring

Looking at designers who have found their place in the menswear market has helped me place my work and consider designs and collaborations for Unit X. I am drawn to high quality and professional finishings and from looking at the designers above, it is these aspects as well as the best tailoring that create high end, catwalk worthy, statement pieces. I admire the impeccable tailoring at Thom Sweeney and the bold, oversized patterns from Etro and Tommy Hilfiger. The photo shoot with model Dmitry Brylev shows the exquisite garments for their intended market and purpose and I think further research in to designers and photographers will help me to understand the industry better and move my fabrics forwards.

I think with practice and refinement to my techniques and fabrics, they could be sold for similar prices to that of Dash and Miller, selling to high end Menswear designers and companies for outerwear.
