By combining with another tutorial group, I found the group portfolio crit session to be a really good way of seeing a variety of portfolio styles. It also gave me the chance to see the work of people from other specialist areas and consider their approaches towards putting together a portfolio. Having spoken about my work to a variety of audiences in final year so far, I felt confident in presenting my work and talking through my portfolio ideas, however, reflecting back on this, I feel I need to be more selective with what work I show.
I found it useful to have the peer feedback on postit notes and several comments said how varied my portfolio was, which was something I had aimed for by using a variety of yarns and colour palettes through out final year. A comment I received was the potential of my work fitting across a variety of contexts, specifically high end womenswear. I agree that my work could fit other contexts, and I feel with more time, this could have been something to explore. I hope to broaden my context after my degree, possibly working in a similar way to Dash and Miller, with the customer deciding on the context of the fabric.
I also received a comment about the mounting of my samples and the possibility of mounting them on slightly heavier card. I agree that this would hold the samples better and reflect the weight of the samples. Having my portfolio boards on the same card will give consistency to my portfolio and an overall professional finish.
