Colour Palette & Warp Design

For this warp, I wanted to work with contemporary colours that haven't been taken from trend forecasting. I found working from trends quite limiting for the Dash & Miller brief and I think fresh imagery and material will help to create exciting fabrics for high-end Menswear. I have selected images that contain abstract shapes which I think emphasises the colours. Etro combines and blends tones and shades of colours, avoiding raw, primary colours. I feel the 6 colour I have chosen incorporate enough darks, brights and lights to compliment each other and in the right proportion, create an exciting contemporary fabric.

I have chosen to work with merino wool due to the high quality and soft finishing it has when steamed and pressed. A visit to Yeoman Yarns helped me to select the right shades of colours, ensuring that they worked well together and complimented each other.

I feel I have a better understanding of my context after visiting boutiques in London. I observed that the traditional patterns for mens suiting are twills, and this has influenced my warp design and threading. The high ends per inch will create a flannel type quality which is again a traditional feature of suiting, but combining this with my colour palette will hopefully turn a traditional style of suiting fabric in to contemporary, high end fabrics.
