Having visited the Dash and Miller studios in Bristol and completing the live project for the company in the Practice unit, I was fortunate enough to meet Juliet Bailey and Franki Brewer again at the university for the talk they gave to the students and the presentation I gave to them. I found it interesting to hear about their textiles background and the work experience they had after leaving university before forming the company.
Having done a formal presentation in the Practice unit as well as presenting my work at the Bradford Society of Dyers and Colourists competition, gaining positive feedback from both, I felt well prepared to talk about my work and was more confident presenting in front of professionals from outside of the university. I made sure I clearly outlined the concept and context of my work as well as keeping the layout of my boards and samples clear and simple as this was a strength the judges commented on at the Bradford competition.
I feel very lucky to have been offered a placement with Dash and Miller in September for a 3 month period. I think having worked with Dashing Tweeds and writing my placement report will help me to build upon and develop the skills that I outlined as well as learn new skills and experience a high-end, contemporary woven textiles company.
